Nut Standard:
ASTM A563 - Heavy hex structural nuts
Material and Properties:
Carbon steel
Plain carbon steel (e.g. C10, C15, C22)
Alloy steel (e.g. 34CrMo4, 40CrMnMoS8-6)
Provides good strength and hardness
Stainless steel
Austenitic (e.g. A2, A4) - Excellent corrosion resistance
Martensitic (e.g. 1.4006, 1.4021) - Good corrosion resistance and strength
Strength Grades:
Heavy hex structural nuts are available in various strength grades, including:
Grade A - Minimum proof strength of 105 ksi (725 MPa)
Grade C - Minimum proof strength of 130 ksi (900 MPa)
Grade DH - Minimum proof strength of 150 ksi (1035 MPa)
Applications:
High-strength structural connections
Heavy equipment, machinery, bridges, buildings
Corrosive environments (stainless steel versions)
Coatings and Finishes:
Plain (uncoated)
Zinc plated (for mild corrosion resistance)
Hot-dip galvanized (for better corrosion resistance)
